Our local Maori guides will share a memorable journey into the vast Waipoua Forest, providing a mythological insight of this spiritual home to two of New Zealand icons, Tane Mahuta and Te Matua o Ngahere. The guides will map out natures stages of evolution, and offer their own interpretation of life, within the forest. On the popular Twilight Tour, you cant help but notice when the forest becomes absolutely quiet at bed time, and the night animals wake up and start moving around the forest. Feel the energy of the children from the forest as they are viewed by starlight, and with brightness of the moon. Let us introduce to you, two of our many treasures that reside within the Waipoua Forest, one is aged 2,500 years, and another is 3000 years old. An informative tour that shares our spiritual culture, within the surrounds of our ancient forests.

HE TANGATAthe maori experience

He Tangata shares the history of Ngā Hau e Whā National Marae (Formal meeting grounds), in Christchurch. Nga Hau e Wha is a the only official National Marae of New Zealand.

Your experience includes the traditional Pōwhiri (welcoming ceremony) that leads visitors, onto our marae as friends. Gaze up at the carvings and weaved patterns, as these reflect a number of the many tribes of New Zealand, including Captain James Cook. We remember our tupuna (ancestors) as we gaze upon the walls and ceilings within our wharenui (main meeting house) and bring them to life with technology and lighting.

We share a selection of Maori traditional and contemporary dishes, including Hāngi (Maori food steam cooked in the earth) salads, condiments and our kiwi favourite desserts, Steamed Pudding and Apple crumble

At a surcharge we can offer our fresh Kaimoana (seafood) platter, that includes in-season delicacies such as Crayfish, Paua, Kina (sea urchin) Oysters, and Pipis.

During the Hākari (feast) our Maori warriors and wahine (ladies) will entertain you with a cultural performance, including poi dance and haka.
